Persons who own properties along the coast or near a lake may also posses a boat or other similar vehicles. And, preparing your boat for a hurricane is a no-brainer.<\/p>\n<p>Taking action and implementing <strong>safeguards<\/strong> before a storm can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">decrease the risk of damage to your boat and other belongings<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">reduce the chances of having to pay for costly repairs<\/span><\/li>\n<li>prevent damage to others&#8217; belongings which you may be liable for<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to Prepare Your Boat For a Hurricane<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Before a hurricane strikes, get <strong>insurance<\/strong> on your belongings. T<span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 12.997159004211426px;\">ake pictures of your boat, jet skis, and other water equipment ahead of time and keep al<\/span>l reports of ownership and licensing. This will help cover any damage which may be incurred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Use duct-tape to <strong>seal any holes or openings<\/strong> in vents, windows, or doors, and <strong>secure<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">windows and shutters<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">doors, cabinets, and drawers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">latches\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>any loose items<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong>3. \u00a0Close larger openings<\/strong> such as hull openings with plugs or towels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> <strong>Fill fuel tanks completely <\/strong>so that the liquid does not shift drastically during the storm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Anchor the boat down or bring the boat ashore.<\/strong> Experts generally recommend that smaller boats be transported to land to avoid being tipped over or overcome by storm surges. If you choose to leave the boat in the water, anchor the vehicle with a large anchor and install larger cleats than normal. Consider the location of the harbor your boat will be left. Avoid anchoring your boat near rocky harbors which can severely damage the boat during a storm.<\/p>\n<p>Most boats and vehicles come with a guide for hurricane preparedness.
